The Axe of Blood
A black headsman’s axe of enormous, almost cartoonish, size. It is magic and counts as a magic weapon to hit, but is otherwise a normal battleaxe until it has drawn blood. For each opponent it draws blood from, it gains +1 up to +4. (Multiple hits on the same opponent do not increase it’s magic.) To gain this effect, the opponent must have some form of life-blood and be considered a living creature.
If it reaches maximum bonus, the wielder must pass a willpower saving throw to retain control or the axe will act of own will, taking more heads friend or foe.
Kit obtained this grand axe after taking a temporary job as an headswoman. There had been a terrible crime, a kidnapping and murder of one of the noble’s children, and a full hundred conspirators, friends of conspirators, and a few completely unrelated disreputables to even off the number were lined up and their heads taken. With each blow, the axe became more thirsty, and it’s power became more obvious to Kit. When the last head was taken, before it could even stop blinking its surprise at its new state, she’d requested to keep the axe in lieu of payment.
