Players are encouraged to provide supplemental narrative to give their characters reasonable proficiencies. These may be determined impromptu, during a game, or out of game. A character may gain 2 proficiencies in this way. More than 2 proficiencies requires Judge’s approval. Proficiency is worth a bonus of 1 plus 1 per level. Thus, characters at level 1 have a proficiency bonus of +2.
- A Beggar has learned to manipulate people through a glib tongue, so may be proficient in coercion, persuasion, acting, or similar.
- A Wizard who used to be a stable boy says he’s an proficient horseback rider.
- A Thief wants to be good at tracking and, since he has no other proficiencies, declares it’s a natural proficiency. (This is different from Thief Skills.)
